Apples are good source of vitamins and they are usually less expensive and are available throughout the year. In North America, apples are found in abundance from late summer to early winter and they can be exported to the places where it is not cultivated. While purchasing, pick the ones which are bright in color and avoid the ones which has brown spots on them. They can be stored in fridge to avoid quick ripening and can retain their freshness for up to 7 days. By consuming each apple a day one can keep their body in healthy condition. This recipe is extremely crispy and crunchy and it is perfect for a stomach filling breakfast.
Ingredients
- 5 peeled apples cut into ¼ inch slices
- ½ cup of lemon juice
- ½ cup of all-purpose flour
- ½ cup of rolled oats
- ½ cup of wheat and barley nugget cereal
- ½ cup of melted butter
- ¼ cup of white sugar
- ¼ cup of brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- 1/3 cup of brown sugar
- 1/3 cup of white sugar
- ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon of water
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
- To prevent browning, toss sliced apples with lemon juice.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, rolled oats, wheat and barley nugget cereal, melted butter, 1/4 cup of white sugar and brown sugar together.
- Pour apples and sugar mixture into a quart baking dish and sprinkle topping evenly over the filling.
- Bake it in a preheated oven until the top is browned and the filling is bubbling up around the edges.
- Allow it to cool down for 15 minutes and it can serve for about 8 members.
This recipe takes 15 minutes for preparation and 22 minutes for cooking and baking, so altogether this recipe can be made within an hour. This can be made during festivals and other special occasions or can also be served as a snack for children.
