Summer Plum Crostata
A summer plum crostata is a classic Italian dessert consisting of a single-serving pastry tart filled with juicy summer plums. The dish is typically prepared with a buttery pastry crust, flavored with vanilla extract, and filled with plums that have been lightly sweetened. The crostata can be served hot out of the oven with a dollop of freshly-whipped cream or on its own as an easy-to-make yet elegant dessert.
Ingredients
- 1 sheet store-bought or homemade puff pastry
- 3-4 firm, ripe plums -1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice, plus extra for sprinkling
- 1 tablespoon butter, melted
- Vanilla ice cream, for serving (optional)
Procedure
- Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).
- Cut the puff pastry into a 7-inch (18 cm) circle and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Using a fork, dock the puff pastry to keep it from puffing up too much.
- Cut the plums into thin wedges and arrange them over the puff pastry in a circular pattern, slightly overlapping the edges.
- Sprinkle the sugar and cinnamon over the plums and drizzle with the freshly-squeezed lemon juice and melted butter.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and the plums are cooked through.
- Sprinkle with a little extra lemon juice and serve warm with vanilla ice cream, if desired. Enjoy!
