Scientific name - Duchesnea indica
Duchesnea indica is an aggregate accessory fruit that is quite similar to true strawberry, although this is actually an independent evolution of a similar fruit type. Inhabitant to Eastern and Southern Asia, it has yellow flowers, unlike the white or slightly pink flowers of true strawberries. Having said that, it has been introduced to many other areas as an ornamental plant

Duchesnea indica with several local names such as Indian strawberry, False strawberry, Mock strawberry and snake strawberry.
The fruits of Duchesnea indica are dry and insipid and are tasteless. According to some, it is of a flavor somewhat akin to watermelon. It contains 3.4% sugar, 1.5% protein, 1.6% ash. Vitamin C is 6.3mg per 100ml of juice. With a 10mm diameter, they are entirely covered with red achenes. White or red in color, it contains a single seed. Having fewer flavors, this edible fruit resembles miniature strawberries, but they are not juicy and lack flavor.

Medicinal use of Mock Strawberry

In general, germination takes place within 1 - 6 weeks or more at 15°C. Phase of cold stratification is said to speed up germination.
